Cao and Rao share the spoils at Thruxton

Monday 18 August 2014

Fortec Motorsport team-mates Matt Rao and Martin Cao enjoyed a win apiece as well as spells topping the Cooper Tires British Formula 3 Championship standings at the Thruxton round last weekend.

Cao enjoyed a decisive victory ahead of Rao in the second race of the weekend on a drying circuit whilst Rao was able to bounce back and retake the championship lead through winning the weekend’s third and final race ahead of Cao at Hampshire’s high-speed circuit.

Double R’s Camren Kaminsky ended his weekend on the podium with third position in race three, ahead of team-mate Max Marshall on his first championship outing. For his debut, Marshall earned the Mobil 1 Service Centre Master of the Weekend, his weekend deemed to have displayed a combination of outstanding effort, significant improvement and exceptional sportsmanship. Kaminsky ended the day’s first race in fifth position, with Marshall taking fourth.

Fifth spot in race three was taken by Carlin Motorsport’s Li Zhi Cong, who had earlier taken third spot in race two. Subsequent set-up changes didn’t suit the Chinese driver, such that he understeered off the track on the first lap, dropping enough time on his rivals to make for an uneventful run to the chequered flag.

The final win for Rao meant he regained the championship lead heading to the championship’s penultimate event at Brands Hatch on August 30-31.
