Cooper Tires British F3 race wins for MacLeod and Rao

Tuesday 24 June 2014

Race One

Sam MacLeod took a race one victory at Snetterton in the Cooper Tires British Formula 3 Championship, in a pole to finish lead ahead of Fortec team-mates Martin Cao and Matt Rao.
The Fortec trio made a strong start to the race, but Double R Racing's Andy Chang had a lapse that saw him spin at the approach to Oggies, leaving him some way behind Carlin's Li Zhi Cong before the end of the first lap.

As the lap ended, MacLeod had managed to build a hard earned 0.815 seconds gap ahead of Cao, but his team-mate responded to close in, with the time down to less than half a second, as he pulled away from Rao.

Cao's pressing on MacLeod did come at a cost, as the Chinese driver locked his wheels up at Murrays several times as he tried to end his streak of finishing second in every race so far this season with an elusive victory.

As the race came to an end, both Cao and Rao closed on their targets, but they were unable to move up the grid with MacLeod taking the chequered flag.

Race Two

Fortec Motorsport's Matt Rao took victory in an incident filled race two that saw team-mate Sam MacLeod and Double R Racing's Camren Kaminksy collide late on, sending Kaminsky into a race-ending spin with Rao storming into the lead. MacLeod had time to recover, and Rao finished the race ahead of his team-mate, as Double R Racing's Andy Chang made up the final podium position after avoiding the incidents.

Race Three

Sam MacLeod emulated his race one success in third and final race, capping a fine weekend for Fortec. It was a race that almost proved costly for the team as Martin Cao and Matt Rao had a collision that ended Martin Cao's race and hindered Rao's pace.

Fortec's loss was to be Double R Racing's gain as Andy Chang took his best finish of the season in second place but it was to be a frustrating race for team-mate Camren Kaminsky who, after starting well, fell back and finished fourth.
