Bank of England boss seeks opinion from Cooper Tire

The Governor of the Bank of England, Mervyn King, recently visited Cooper Tire’s European headquarters in Melksham, Wiltshire, as part of a tour of businesses in the West Country.

Mr King met with Cooper Tire & Rubber Company Europe managing director, Julian Baldwin on Tuesday 28 July.

The pair discussed current economic and business conditions. The information gathered during the tour will help the Bank of England with its policy-setting process.

“Mr King and I discussed business in general,” Baldwin said. “He was interested in the current state of the UK tyre industry, how it was fairing in the recession and what impact the recent banking problems and shortage of finance were having on the trade.

“I hope the information we at Cooper Tire were able to give is useful – it’s not every day the Bank of England comes asking for our opinion on how we see the economy over next few months.”
